In the last few weeks I have noticed the distinct hoot of an owl as I wake up to start my day. This is not unusual in itself but one recent morning it dawned on me...I have awaken to that same wonderful sound most of my life.
I first heard it as a boy of 12 when my family moved us from the Bronx to a small ranch house on a 10 acre piece of land in what was called Freehold at the time. Mostly woods and many animals.I stayed there till I was 22 years old in a dark, dank green room at the halls end.
I spent 18 years in a small one bedroom house in Jackson Township semi secluded in a country setting, mostly alone except for the ever present sounds emanating from the woods.I remember distinctly waking up to the sound of an owl there as well.
Now as my 10th year here in Waretown winds down I have become attuned to the sounds that surround me. The birds are of a very special interest to me as my 4 parrots enjoy squawking loudly as the sun comes up every morning.I am very fortunate to say that the sound of an owl, (the same owl?) has been one constant in my life I truly love.
